On June 29 – July 2, 2018, seminar “GIS and Protected Areas” was held at the National Natural Park Slobozhansky. For the sixth year in a row, the GIS and Protected Areas seminar brings together GIS specialists and environmentalists for training and productive dialogue. This is the only event in Ukraine aimed at introducing modern technologies into the nature protection activities and biological researches. This year, 25 specialists from 20 organizations from 8 regions of Ukraine took part in the workshop.
During the seminar following activities were presented: FIS for natural biotops study, analysis and planning of recreational activities using geoinformation systems, data remote sensing and drone data collection in protected areas, environmental mapping in Ukraine, environmental monitoring, web applications creation.
During the master classes the participants learned how to design maps, basic knowledge of QGIS and NextGIS Mobile, discussed the ArcGIS Online capabilities and creation of web applications and ecological analysis in the MaxEnt software. Remote sensing Earth and creation of orthophoto maps was also one of the main topic. Drone data collection study was also sown during the excursion in the national park.
